Wisdom Teeth Removal

What’s Wisdom Tooth Removal?

While some lucky patients have more than enough room for their wisdom teeth to come through the gums, most patients need to have them removed. If these teeth don’t have enough viable room to fully erupt, they become impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth can be painful and can even damage surrounding dentition. It’s best to remove them before they fully become a problem to your oral health.

Who’s a candidate for Wisdom Tooth Removal?

Any patient who is having problems with their wisdom teeth is a good candidate for wisdom tooth removal. You are never too young or too old to have the procedure done. What happens during Wisdom Tooth Removal?

We begin by administering sedation to calm you down and put you to sleep for the procedure. The gums are slightly cut so that we can get to the wisdom teeth and remove them. Sutures are often used to close the gums. You’ll go home with a friend or relative and be instructed to bite down on gauze until the bleeding stops completely. It is important that you read any and all aftercare instructions so that the area is able to heal over the course of the next week or two.
