What’s a Cleaning and Exam?
Both exams and cleanings help to keep your teeth healthy. Exams are used to find certain problems before they are allowed to get worse. Cleanings are done by licensed dental hygienists who work meticulously to remove calculus, stains and buildup from the teeth. Your gums are checked for signs of gum disease at each of your checkup appointments.

Over time and even with the best brushing techniques, your teeth will begin to get tartar buildup that is next to impossible to remove safely on your own. Likewise, minor dental problems can go without symptoms and only be detected during your bi-annual examination. It’s important to make routine trips into the office so that we can provide the care that you need and want.
Who’s a candidate for a Cleaning and Exam?
Every single member of your family is a viable candidate for cleanings and exams. In fact, we advise parents to bring their children in as soon as possible for their first cleaning and exam. By adopting good habits early on, your children will be more likely to keep up with their dental care as adults. What can you expect with a Cleaning and Exam?
We begin the appointment with x-rays, which are used to help us diagnose an array of different conditions and problems. Next, the hygienist will work to remove all buildup from your teeth as well as stains. We then polish and floss the teeth before a gum check is done. The gum check involves measuring the depth of the small pockets around each tooth and depending on how large these pockets are, could be a sign of gum disease. The doctor will then come into the room and perform an exam to check for cavities and other intra-oral problems.
